Client Experiences

In their own words

SL

Sarah L.

British national, Chiang Mai

"I came to the consultation not knowing what to expect, and genuinely felt at ease from the start. Everything was explained clearly and without pressure. The written summary they gave me afterwards was incredibly helpful — I read it several times over the following week. I ended up deciding to proceed further, but it was entirely my choice."

"The settlement process took a bit longer than I had hoped, but I was kept informed at every stage and nothing happened without my agreement. Khun Praewa was patient when I needed more time to think, and the final agreement was fair. I felt respected throughout, which honestly mattered more to me than speed."

"I had a fairly complex cross-border situation involving children and needed someone who understood both the Thai legal side and the international dimensions. The team handled everything methodically and explained each step before proceeding. Their familiarity with how Chiang Mai courts operate made a real difference."

"I was nervous before the consultation, but felt much calmer afterwards. The fact that they provided everything in writing meant I could go home and think properly without trying to remember everything that was said. It is a small thing but it made a big difference for me."

"The ongoing representation service was what I needed for a fairly drawn-out matter. The costs were agreed upfront and stuck to, which I really appreciated. There were a couple of delays along the way that were outside anyone's control, but I was always told what was happening and why. I would use Metta Bhakdi again without hesitation."

"When I came for the settlement assistance, I was worried about how the other party would react to having a lawyer involved. Khun Praewa was very careful about how things were framed and kept the whole process cooperative. We reached an agreement both of us could live with, and the children have been much calmer since."

How some matters unfolded

Names and identifying details have been changed. Shared with the clients' permission.

A couple seeking to separate amicably — with a shared business and two children

The Situation

A Thai-British couple in Chiang Mai had decided to separate. Both wanted to avoid conflict — particularly regarding their two children and a small business they had built together. They had tried to discuss things alone but kept reaching the same points of disagreement.

What We Did

We conducted separate consultations with each party, identified the areas of agreement, and facilitated a structured process to resolve the outstanding points — custody arrangements and business valuation — without either side needing to instruct separate legal teams.

The Outcome

A written agreement was reached within six weeks. Both parties felt the outcome was fair. The children's routine remained stable, and the business was transferred without dispute. Eight months on, both reported continuing with the arrangement without difficulty.

"We were both surprised at how straightforward it ended up being. The whole point was to keep things calm for the children, and that is what happened."

An individual dealing with a custody matter following relocation from abroad

The Situation

A foreign national who had recently moved to Chiang Mai needed to formalise a custody arrangement after a separation. Their former partner was overseas, and the documentation required for the Thai court process was unfamiliar and daunting.

What We Did

We handled the preparation of all required documentation, liaised with the relevant court office in Chiang Mai, and coordinated correspondence with the overseas party's own legal representative. The client was updated at each stage and never needed to attend court themselves.

The Outcome

The custody order was formalised after approximately three months — a realistic timeline for this type of matter in Chiang Mai. The client has since reported that having the arrangement formalised has removed significant ongoing uncertainty.

"I had no idea where to start with the Thai court process. Having someone explain each step and handle the paperwork made it manageable."
