Our Story

From a quiet corner of Nimmanhaemin

Metta Bhakdi came into being because its founder noticed a gap: many families in Chiang Mai needed thoughtful legal guidance but found the experience of seeking it hurried, impersonal, or unclear. The practice was established to change that — to create a space where people feel heard first, and advised second.

Since opening on Nimmanhaemin Soi 9, the practice has supported individuals and families through consultations, settlement processes, and longer-term matters — always with the same measured, respectful approach. The name Metta Bhakdi reflects a belief in showing genuine goodwill to everyone who walks through the door.

Thailand's family law landscape can be complex, particularly for those with ties to more than one country. Our work centres on making that complexity navigable — through clear explanations, transparent agreements, and steady support at every stage.

Our Mission

To provide family law assistance in Chiang Mai that is honest, accessible, and free from unnecessary pressure — so that every client can make decisions they feel at ease with.

Our Vision

A practice where families feel safe to raise difficult questions — and where those questions are met with patience and care, every time.

Our Commitment

Plain-language communication, transparent costs, consistent updates, and strict confidentiality — these are not extras; they are the baseline of how we work.

How We Work

Standards we hold ourselves to

Strict Confidentiality

All client information is held in strict confidence. We do not share, discuss, or disclose anything without explicit consent — ever.

Written Clarity

Key information, options, and agreements are provided in writing — so clients can review them calmly and refer back whenever needed.

Thai Bar Association Membership

Our practitioners are registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand and adhere to its professional and ethical standards throughout all client work.

Fee Transparency

All costs are explained and agreed before any work begins. There are no unexpected charges, and clients are notified before any additional expense is incurred.

Consistent Updates

Clients are kept informed at each stage. No one should need to chase us for news — we provide timely updates as a matter of course.

Data Protection Compliance

We handle all personal data in accordance with Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and broader data privacy principles.

What We Stand For

Family law that places people first

Family law matters in Thailand — whether involving divorce, custody, property division, or documentation for mixed-nationality families — carry real emotional weight. We recognise that and shape everything we do around it. The law does not have to feel cold or remote; it can be explained clearly, managed carefully, and handled with the respect every family situation deserves.

Our practice draws on extensive experience with the Thai Civil and Commercial Code, Chiang Mai district court procedures, and the particular circumstances that arise for foreign nationals resident in northern Thailand. We have supported clients from diverse backgrounds and understand the additional sensitivities that international family situations can bring.

Above all, we believe that legal support works best when clients feel comfortable, informed, and in control. We do not push or rush. We offer a calm threshold between difficulty and clarity — and we walk through it alongside you, at a pace that suits you.
